Long-term objectives and near-term cash needs

An investment horizon and a liquidity requirement are related but distinct. A long-term objective can coexist with obligations that require cash on a fixed timetable.
A useful discussion separates those commitments and considers whether an exposure could be reduced under difficult conditions. The structure of the instrument matters as well as the underlying asset.
Framing the question this way helps make trade-offs visible without implying that a single allocation can meet every objective.
