Our Research Method
A clear question is the beginning of useful research.
We organise research around a question that can be examined, rather than a conclusion that needs to be defended. The starting point is a description of the business, market or instrument and the reason it deserves attention.
Evidence, assumptions and interpretation are recorded separately. This makes it easier to revisit a view when a company reports, market conditions shift or new information becomes available.
The process
Set the scope, time horizon and key question. Identify what is outside the analysis.
Read primary disclosures and understand the operational mechanism behind the figures.
Develop alternative explanations and identify the assumptions with the greatest effect on the outcome.
Record what has changed and whether it alters the original reasoning, rather than focusing only on a price movement.
